My name is Victoria Lawlor. My Applied Learning Project is dedicated to getting involved in local government.
SO WHY GET INVOLVED?
I was largely inspired by Model Senate. This is where students can work in a mock United States Senate, and the students present bills about pressing issues in America today. Being able to participate in this activity sparked my interest in getting involved in public service which is when I started the whole idea of my project.
As a result I worked as an intern for a state representative. Along with working with Representative Barrows, I helped Marianne Staples, the town clerk, with the November Election. I helped Mr. Barrows with his re-election campaign and Mrs. Staples with assembling volunteers for the election. Also I am now working with Mrs. Staples in the Town Clerk's office.
